How To Make Your Resume Work For You?

The key component of a successful resume is to target it to a specific job position. To write your resume for general review is to shoot without aiming. If you want to make your resume work for you and get a new better job, then you need to put some time and effort not only into your resume writing but into job search as well.

Having a myriad of useful tips, guidelines and advices on how to write a good resume we try so hard to make it perfect, following all the guidelines on the format, sequence of information and font type, that we forget the main thing: successful resume is one that leads you to the interview, and not the one that is written "according to the rules".

To make sure your resume will stand the competition and will fulfill your professional objective please review these three principles.

DEFINE YOUR TARGET

Before writing or updating your resume select one or more job openings that you wish to apply for. Do not put your resume for general review online. There are thousands of resumes out there, and the chances of yours to be noticed are very small. Instead be proactive, spend some time to find companies and positions you are interested in and go for them.

TAKE AIM

Once you have selected your targeted job openings you need to adjust your resume to match each. Don't be tempted to send same resume to different employers, it won't work because it's impossible hit several targets with one bullet.

Write a copy of your resume per each job position. Compose a unique job objective each time but avoid using templates. Your goal is to make your statement personal for the reader to feel like you have been striving to work in this specific company and not just anywhere.

The next step is to adjust your professional experience and achievements section. Look for the hints in the initial job ad, try to include same phrases if applicable to your experience and maintain similar structure/consequence if possible. The keywords for your resume are in the job posting, include them in your resume but don't overuse.

SHOOT!

Once you have worked on the content of your resume, format it to look neat and professional and you are ready to shoot. When you send it to your potential employer it is better to compose a short covering letter to go with it, and put it in the body of the email. Now you just need to wait, usually you will receive a reply within nearest 2-3 days. If you don't you can go ahead and send a follow-up letter to check the status of your resume and the deadlines by which you can expect a reply.

However be very careful with this letter, while it is your right to be informed of the progress of your application, you don't want to sound rude or impulsive. Stay formal, polite and concise. Remember that your professional and personal skills may be judged not only by your resume but by any action you take.

We wish you good luck with your resume and the fulfillment of your professional and personal ambitions. Your resume makes your first impression and we hope it will look professional, confident and relevant to help you get the job that you want.

Find a Job Online Without Using Job Search Sites

Did you know that you can find a job online without using job search sites? That's right. You don't necessarily have to use job search sites and you don't have to leave your home to go to this job. As a matter of fact, you can work for a company just like you would without leaving your home.

There are jobs such as customer service jobs that you can try. You can even give technical support jobs a chance. How this works is you get the equipment delivered to you. You do get training for the job that you are taking on, which is great because you need as much as you can get since you won't be working with others around you. If you do have a question, there is always someone you can contact to ask a question to.

There are also companies with other things that they need done. For example, a company may need someone to enter data into spreadsheets or databases for them. They may need someone to do some telemarketing for them as well.

There are so many things that you can do online. It isn't just a matter of finding a job, but it is a matter of having a job that you can do at home. This means you can keep the kids in sight, have that schedule flexibility you've always wanted, and you can go to those baseball games and other events that you want to go to so much. You would be quite surprised at how much freedom you get working at home even if you are working for another company.

How To Write A Resume Summary Paragraph

When writing a resume it is important to give the document purpose. This is done by writing a resume summary paragraph above your work and education information. This paragraph will summarize exactly what the goal of the resume is. This paragraph will tell the employer what kind of personality you have, your work ethic, your talents, and most importantly, your objective and how you wish to fulfill that at the company you are applying for. There are many resume writing services that specialize in doing this.

Now that you know the purpose of writing the resume summary paragraph it is important to understand the correct grammar, formatting and sentence flow that is typically used in professionally written resumes. Here is a free example of what we are talking about here before we discuss in detail what we are describing.
Corporate Business Development Executive with repeated success identifying critical business issues and opportunities, launching profitable strategies, leading new business ventures and relationship management. Proven record of achievement leading to accelerated consultative sales, improved business processes, and optimal market share. Experienced in large established, turnaround and early stage companies.
Do you see how there is no reference to the self? You do not want to reference yourself because it sounds pompous and arrogant. Descriptive sentences are much less confrontational and much more conversational in the eyes of the hiring manager.

The next thing to notice is that there are a lot of keywords spread out throughout the text that hiring managers, like myself, tend to look for. An example of this is "repeated success", "leading", "proven record of achievement" and so on. These are high impact keywords and buzzwords that the employer will identify with and may end up selecting your professionally written resume over your competitors.

If you wish to learn more about how to write the rest of the resume, not just the summary paragraph, then you will need to learn how write a resume, an official Business Resumes article.

How to Write Your Resume

There are two types of candidates for a job. They are inexperienced versus experienced. No matter what, both types will need to have a resume that is presentable when applying for a job. The hiring company does not know you and the resume is first thing they look at before anything. The goal is to make your resume interesting enough that they will want to call you for an in-person interview.

The main thing is to have as little "white space" as possible on your resume. You want to fill it up as much as you can. For those that don't have much experience, you can put down any extra curricular activities that you have done such as volunteer work or any INTERNSHIPS. If you haven't done so, up on some information about internships.

Writing a resume is easy, but writing an attracting and useful resume is a skill. There are actually some companies that can help you format your resume into a more appealing one. One of them that my friend tried was Amazing Resume Creator. I believe the price is pretty decent if you want professional help on your resume. Obviously, most people try to write their own but if you are having trouble, go check them out.

Having a decent resume is definitely the key to landing an interview. Also for those that are still in college or finished up with college, you can try to put down some related courses you took that you feel may be useful for the position you are applying for. For example, if you are applying for an entry level job in finance, you may want to list some finance courses such as Investment Analysis, Data Analysis, Economics, and even some Accounting classes.

What Is A Curriculum Vitae?

Resume writing and Curriculum Vitae writing are two entirely different things; however, many people confuse the two. They are both used for the purpose of seeking employment; however, there are clear differences. Before you begin to apply for the work, you need to ensure that you understand what the differences are, and when to use each of the items.

There are many jobs, which will need detailed information regarding an applicant; therefore, a resume will not be good enough. If you are searching for a position in education, medicine, and sciences, you will need a greater knowledge of your life. Curriculum Vitae means course of life and is typically shortened to CV.

A CV is accepted all over the world, and although, companies and countries may have different variations the content remains the same. This is often incredibly detailed, and far longer than a resume. It will include many different sections including, former positions held, education, affiliations, courses taken and your personal details.

The education section can be incredibly detailed, listing not only where you studied, what you studied, but a brief outline of the courses which you attended. Experience is another detailed section of the CV, which will need to include all previous jobs. Both paid, and unpaid jobs need to be listed, alongside a detailed explanation of position held, and tasked completed.

You may not consider some of the work that you have done over the years to be relevant; however, some employees may be interested to see how diverse you are in your work. Every small detail should be included, as this will help to promote your skills and personality. Scholarships, grants and awards should also be included on the CV, as these are all relevant to your experience.

The idea of the CV is to promote yourself, and get noticed by your experience and the way that you can portray your work history through your Curriculum Vitae. You need to ensure that you write enough on your CV; however, it does not need to be your autobiography. If you have had many different jobs, you may want to limit the amount you list to jobs that are related to the position you want.

When you submit your curriculum vitae, you need to have a cover letter included, which should be limited to one page. All references in the letter should refer to the CV, which you are submitting, and be clear what position you are applying for. Many people are daunted by writing a CV; however, it is only a list of your work history, experience, education and personal details.

There are free templates, which you can use to research the different ways to lay out a CV and ensure that you are happy with the result. You need to make sure that you check the spelling on the CV and that the grammar is correct. Employees will feel better at offering a position if time and effort have been applied to the CV.

Write a Super Resume

Does the idea of "stepping out of the box" really worry you? It shouldn't, because most people get nervous at the idea of a change in career. Remember that even the most successful people had to start somewhere! Here are 6 tips to help you write a super resume.

1. Study Your Chosen Industry
Begin this by researching your specific interests. Which industry would you enjoy working in? Do you possess the necessary skills? Will this job choice provide the necessary income? What is the hourly rate at entry level?
Be sure to write down all the answers to the above questions, being careful to be brutally honest: this is your future you are dealing with. If the answers can be found with clear facts you are ready to begin work on the target resume.

2. Create an Objective
You are now ready to develop an objective statement. It should be less than 170 characters and state succinctly your achievements at the new position. For instance, "To gain a position in (insert company name) that recognizes my skills and encourages growth within the company." This is the time to appear impressive.

Put yourself in the prospective employer's shoes and take a good look at yourself. You will be able to write a great resume if you really understand how the employer thinks. You should direct the resume according to the needs of the employer if you want a positive response.

3. Create a List of Your Attributes
Under the heading "Summary of Qualifications", list all of your attributes. The employer will search your resume for 'highlights' of your skills.

One example would be in regard to an office job, the need for clerical experience would be relevant. Take care to present this experience in a professional manner, like so:
Administrative Support (6 yrs) - Responsibilities included answering the phones, data entry and word processing for the CEO.

Limit the Summary of Qualifications to a maximum of 4 main attributes. Be descriptive but stay within 2 lines of content. Write the job duties as a titled attribute.

4. List Your Technical Skills
In the 21st century, computer skills are essential. Create a bullet point list of your technical knowledge, including the software programs you are familiar with.

5. Fluff Your Employment History
Listing your employment history depends upon the position. Sometimes it is a good idea to leave out less significant positions or to combine positions in a similar field. If for example you have worked in customer service in two positions, one for 9 months and the second for 3 months, it will create a better impression if you combined the two for a total of 1 year.

6. The Final Touch - Education and Certificates
Ultimately, the employer will want to ascertain your educational levels, including where you attended school and if you can gain further skills. In this section you should include any relevant continuing education courses you have completed or are in the process of completing and certificates that you have been awarded.

The majority of resumes are straightforward, providing the employer only with the information they need and relating to the specific position. If at all possible, do not exceed one page of content and ensure that this content is easily read: avoid using jargon. Remember that the time to impress is at the interview.
