When actually learning how to write a resume there are 3 options
you have when it comes to giving detailed specifics. All too often job
seekers get this wrong ... and it can absolutely cost you getting your
dream job (or interview)!
Which one are YOU guilty of?
The Down-Player
This person is the most common ... they feel uncomfortable taking credit and talking about themselves. This job seekers often use the term "we" instead of "I" and focus on "experiences" rather than results.
They struggle with getting interviews since those that read their resumes do not get a good picture of WHO they are and WHAT they accomplished ... or are capable of accomplishing!
The Exaggerater
This person cross the line of taking ownership and responsibility into the realm of simply being untrue. Their resume tends to be "too good to be true" and quickly crumbles around them when references are checked OR during interviews when questions are asked about their results. They tend to mix truth with fiction and feel being "larger than life" is their best approach.
Every company and HR person has had experiences with these people ... if they are unfortunate enough to let these people "slip" through the cracks and get hired they are often let go during the "temp" period.
The Bragger
This job seeker perfectly understands the concept of taking responsibility and "selling" themselves on paper. Their detailed specifics focus on RESULTS rather than experiences and their resume speaks volumes as to the type of employee they are and can be.
Their focus is very PAR oriented (Problem/Action/Result) and you can see that in their resume AND in the interview itself. They use the word "I" often and give credit where credit it due.
So ... now you know the 3 different "types" of resume writers which one are YOU guilty of? Be sure to focus on results and use the word "I" to make your resume more "Bragging" than the other 2 options!
